Berryville Community Center announces
holiday closures, Jan. painting class

BERRYVILLE—The Berryville Community Center (BCC) will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1. It will re-open at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
Artist and author Lin Wellford will lead the Adult Enhancement Class Jan. 23 and 30. She will be teaching how to paint on rocks, and says it is surprisingly easy to learn this art. In the class, Lin will teach how to create a variety of animals, little rock cottages, and three-dimensional flowers and plants.
All supplies will be provided and the class is free, but Lin says you may bring your own rocks. Membership in BCC is not required.

Celtic Connections returns to Eureka in January

EUREKA SPRINGS—Celtic Connections Eureka, a four-day festival celebrating Celtic heritage, music, poetry, food and drink, will return to Eureka Springs Jan. 18-21. It is timed to coincide with the birthday of Robert Burns, the “Bard of Scotland.”
Robert Burns Night Suppers are scheduled for Thursday and Friday evenings, but throughout the weekend guests will be able to participate in workshops, music sessions, concerts, and “The Gypsy Faire” vendor market. Area pubs and restaurants will also offer special fare in honor of the event.
Friday and Saturday concerts at The City Auditorium will feature Tartanic, Rowan, Ed Miller, and Beth Patterson.
All-day tickets are $28 for Thursday including the Burns Night Supper at the Crescent Hotel; $25 for Friday’s concert and workshops, excluding the Burns Night Supper; $45 each or $80 per couple for Friday’s Burns Night Supper, including all other Friday events; $25 for Saturday’s concert and workshops.

New Year’s Eve in Eureka Springs

• The Grand Taverne in the Grand Central Hotel will be serving dinner until 10 p.m. Reservations requested.

Local Legion Post looking to organize motorcycling group

EUREKA SPRINGS — Members of American Legion Post 9 in Eureka Springs are in the process of forming a local chapter of the American Legion Riders, a national organization of motorcyclists.
American Legion Riders are members of the American Legion who are motorcycle enthusiasts. They typically participate in parades and charitable fundraising events, and support their communities. They support motorcycle safety programs and aim to promote a social atmosphere for American Legion members who share the same interest.
Membership is open to all veterans who are presently members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion, or are qualified to become Legion members. Academy’s annual chili cook-off and auctions set for Feb. 2 EUREKA SPRINGS — The Academy of Excellence in Eureka Springs has scheduled its 4th Annual Chili Cook-off and Auction Feb. 2, 2007. It will be held as usual at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center. The silent auction and dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. The live auction will follow at 6:30. Sale items so far include Branson getaways, archery lessons, jewelry, sports memorabilia, furniture, artwork, restaurant certificates, savings bonds and more. EUREKA SPRINGS — The Kings Kake Mardi Gras Party has been planned as an accompaniment to “Eureka Gras”, a festival fashioned after the New Orleans annual celebration. According to a press release “Whoever gets the ‘Baby’ gets a prize.” The party will held at the recently opened Rowdy Beaver restaurant, located at 417 W Hwy 62 (near Clear Springs School). Kings Day for the celebration is Jan. 6, with happy hour at 3 p.m. The event is sponsored by Krewe of Krazo. Driver Safety course to be offered at St. John’s Hospital

BERRYVILLE—St. John’s Hospital and AARP will be sponsoring a Driver Safety Program intended as a refresher course or drivers of all ages from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 18.
Class size is limited and a $10 materials fee will be charged. It will be held at St. John’s Hospital-Berryville Medical Arts Center Conference Room, 211 Carter St.
