It’s fog. Picture was taken last Thursday morning and overlooks the ladies tee-box on the sixth fairway at Holiday Island before the sun was warm enough to clear off the fog. To the right is the island’s #1 fire station. On the far “shore” to the right of the twin peaks you can see a fire tower near Gateway on a clear day. The “islands” are the tops of the mountain tops.

HUNTSVILLE — The 2006 Annual Christmas Light Decorating Contest results are in for the city of Huntsville and Madison County. Lighting displays were judged the weekend of December 15 thru 18 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. by the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce judges.
“This is a fun project and we always look forward to seeing all of the Christmas displays,” Joy Newman, Director of the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce, said. “It was a difficult decision to make, but we finally have the results.”
In the Small Business category, “Remember When Antiques” received first place, “Partners Antiques” received second and “Town and County Abstract and Title” placed third. Fourth place went to “Witt and Woodbridge Realty.”
In the Large Business category, “Meadowview Health Care and Rehab” received first place, “First National Bank of Green Forest” received second and “Arvest Bank” placed third.
“The City of Huntsville, Street Department, gets special recognition for
their outstanding job decorating the Square and Friendship Fountain,” Newman said. “It is spectacular this year!”
In the City category, the Sperduto residence, at 705 Dogwood Street, received first place, the DeBoer residence, at 507 Hargis, received second place and the Nelle residence, at 506 South Harris, received third place.
“The ‘Best of Show’ goes to the Myer’s residence, at 417 Amber Street,” Newman said. “The music with lights flashing in rhythm is spectacular.”
In the County category, the Thomas residence, at 281 Madison 6000, received first place, the Miller residence, at 17473 Highway 412, received second place and the Brannan residence, at 3182 Madison 8735, received third place.
“The Yates’ home on Highway 23 is a wonderland as usual,” Newman said.
“They were first place last year, and we will have to wait until next year to see what they do before placing them again.”
The residential winners, in both the city and county, received gift cards from Wal-Mart.
“I would like to give a special thank you to every business and home that decorated and made the season a little brighter,” Newman said. “It is always a pleasure to be a judge for this contest.”
“Thanks to everyone who sponsored the “Business After Hours” event,” Newman said. “This event raised almost $500. For a first time event, we were pleased with the results, especially with other events going on in town. We want to thank Ozark Roasters, Arvest Bank, First State Bank of Northwest Arkansas, Madison Coffee House and First National Bank of Green Forest for their help collecting the ‘snowflake donations’.”
The Chamber of Commerce office will be closedDec. 25-Jan. 3. The next Huntsville Chamber of Commerce board meeting will be Jan. 4 at noon at the Madison County Senior Activity Center. Lunch is available for $5 and goes to support the center.
